Like Riding a Bike

Wow, it’s been a while since we checked in! We have been so busy, it’s hard to keep up with writing, especially when you have to rely on wifi. Back to it though. Tuesday of last week we got to get out of the city again for a little relaxation down in Halkidiki. All of the locals keep telling us that Halkidiki has the most beautiful beaches, and they aren’t lying! We spent the day at a beach club listening to the waves and floating in The Agean Sea. We explored the Kassandra peninsula and saw the MOST amazing sunset. I wish we had more time to spend in Halkidiki, but there’s always next time!

Thursday was our egg retrieval at EmbryoLab. Our entire experience at EmbryoLab has been wonderful, and this was no different. The retrieval went well and then it was all in the hands of the embryologists to watch them grow and tell us when to be back for the transfer. I can’t explain why, but as soon as we got the go ahead for the transfer, I was immediately nervous. Kyle might disagree (ha, blame it on the hormones!), but I’d say that I have been pretty relaxed about the whole process until Friday night. The next day would be big. It’s what we’re here for. And once the doctors finish their part, it will be up to me and my body to protect the most precious part of our lives. It’s kind of like taking the training wheels off. But if riding a bike was a passive thing that I actually had no control over but was expected to do and everyone else can do it. I know, that’s probably the worst analogy ever, but I think maybe the other IVF girls here will get it.

It feels odd to continue with travel details now, I think I just want to sit in the realness of what we’ve just been through for a bit before I go on.

P.S. Is it a coincidence that there’s a McDonald’s right next to EmryoLab? Of course we went to get some french fries after transfer. IYKYK.
